We celebrated Easter. In fact, there was one point that Easter almost became my feast day. The most important Sunday of the year seems like an appropriate time to celebrate Sundi, born on Sunday, just as older sister got St. Stephen’s day. Of course, brothers did not have feast days either.
But Easter was an important day, or rather several weeks. On the Sunday, we would always get new clothes. This was big, because besides Christmas and birthdays, this sort of treat did not happen. My sister and I usually got dresses that were the same, but different colors. In the morning, we would go to church and then come home and have pancakes. The afternoon was of course an egg hunt, which usually involved others. Looking through photos, it seems like when we were younger we celebrated more with my mother’s family. Of course this set of photos was 1979, so we were still living in Tucumcari before either of my brothers were born. We are with my Tio (the 3rd oldest is my mom’s family, mentioned in an earlier post) and his two children, my cousins.
Norma’s favorite flowers were lilies, and Easter is filled with lilies. She also loved butterflies, so I imagine that the idea of new life, spring, change were important to her. She was a fan of Easter.
I found two more Easter photo sessions. Unfortunately, Norma is not pictured, but was most likely the photographer. This group is from Silver City because we are pictured with our next door neighbors. I love the overexposed quality of this bright day.
Looks like we would travel back to Tucumcari, as we are pictured with my youngest Tio here. And we must have not always gotten new clothes as older sister seems to have worn the same gown to the ball twice 🙂
I also have to throw in this random Easter picture of my grandmother and my sister. I’m in love with my grandmother’s suit!
Since I think Easter was my mother’s favorite holiday, I will end with a picture of her posing, accompanied by what she decided to write on the back. She’s dressed up and ready to celebrate this holiday.
Happy Easter 💐🦋!

I also love , Love that suit mom is wearing! Awhile back Allie did a search on our ancestors the Garcia’s & Aragon’s there was no paper trail on the Garcia because they were ranchers but l can always remember when Daddy told me we were Dutch Iris & Greek now Aragon’s came from Argentina they were royalty they settled in Santa Fe some of them went back to Argentina some stayed in Santa Fe & died there. Our blue & green eyes come from the Dutch & Iris the large nose comes from the Greek in us.

Oh cool. I’ll have to ask Allie what she did discover.
